Known for its tube amplifiers and long industry legacy, McIntosh has bolstered its selection of power products through the introduction of its MPC500 Power Controller.
Joining its existing MPC1500 Power Controller to provide integrators with a choice of McIntosh power products, the company says the MPC500 Power Controller helps to minimize the inconsistencies in power quality.
The MPC500 Power Controller incorporates cascaded surge protection to deliver full power protection from events such as lightning strikes, surges, and from secondary events such as spikes that occur after the initial event.
Elaborating on how its latest power product protects plugged-in equipment from power events, McIntosh states the unit accomplishes AC line protection through the use of three thermally protected metal-oxide varistors (TPMOVs).
According to McIntosh, TPMOVs are “far safer” than traditional self-sacrificing MOVs that provide line-to-neutral, line-to-ground, and neutral-to-ground protection.
To help deal with secondary surge events, the MPC500 Power Controller protects Ethernet, coaxial and other low-voltage products via Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs), Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thermistors and Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) devices.
In addition, the MPC500 provides electromagnetic interference (EMI) filtering of AC lines and over-and-under voltage protection. McIntosh says the over-and-under voltage protection shuts off the rear receptacles to keep connected devices safe during under voltage situations.

Depending on what country the installation takes place, McIntosh outfits the MPC500 with either eight Type B NEMA 5-15R or four Type F CEE 7/3 or “Schuko” receptacles.
Control of the receptacles is done through the rear-panel Power Control Ports or through the front-panel setup menu.
Offering its traditional aesthetics that includes black glass, illuminated logo and aluminum end caps, the MPC500's front panel can be set up to display input voltage, the amount of current draw through the receptacles or total, apparent power.
