If Marty McFly from the 1980s hit movie “Back to the Future” had been transported to the floor of the CEDIA Expo 2015 in Dallas to the Just Add Power booth, chances are he would have been more blown away by the technology in the Just Add Power booth than from the famous “Flux Capacitor” technology in his time-traveling DeLorean automobile.
Since the show itself fell on the same futuristic dates as depicted in the film, the team at Just Add Power could not resist giving a nod to the cult movie’s technology as it compares to its own advanced video-distribution-over-Ethernet and video wall technology products.
Wearing his very own Flux Capacitor wristwatch, Taft Stricklin of Just Add Power was as exuberant as Doc Brown himself describing two technologies in the booth: the Ultra HDIP 4K video distribution system and the 2G+4+ video tiling processor.
Ultra HDIP
With all the problems related to HDMI signal distribution, Ethernet distribution is getting hard look by many integrators. The Ultra HDIP from Just Add Power is a 4K/UHD capable Ethernet-based video distribution system integrates and matrixes networked 4K/UHD sources and screens, as well as Full HD 1080p/720p devices, in a simple and affordable way with any comprehensive feature set of Ultra HDIP products. The solution facilitates the requirements of virtually any commercial or residential project.
3G Ultra HDIP transmitters and receivers are HDCP 2.2 compliant allowing for the integration of any 4K/UHD screens and sources. Seamless HDCP converts 4K/UHD HDCP 2.2 encrypted content to 1080p mode with HDCP 1.1 protection for existing 1080p displays using 3G Receivers built-in 4K/1K scaler that can downscale 4K/UHD content and output it as 1080p.
“Whatever the source and whatever the screen, it can bring 4K while supporting all the Dolby formats,” says Stricklin.
The 3G Receiver can also upscale a 1080p signal and output it as 3840 x 2160 to be shown on any 4K capable display. The scaler enables you to create a matrix that distributes any combination of 4K/UHD, 1080p, 720p, and lower content to any mixture of 4K-capable and non-4K-capable displays, all with instant seamless switching. 3G Ultra HDIP transmitters also make it possible to output stereo and multichannel audio formats in different zones simultaneously.
2G+4+ Video Tiling Processor
The new 2G+4+ device from Just Add Power is a 1U rack-mountable video tiling processor that enables integrators to watch up to four HDMI sources at the same time on a single display in a variety of modes, including quad view, picture in a picture, and picture on a picture. Integrators can also stack up to five 2G+4+ units and, as a result, actually view up to 16 images simultaneously on any display.
In the booth, the company showed off how easily the processor can recognize portrait vs. landscape display configurations. Using a simple web interface, the four-input video tiling processor can flip images, turn them on their side, or mix and match on the same network. The 2G+4+ Tiling Transmitter is built around a SOC scaler that enables a wide range of new applications for users. Including support for Blending, PIP, POP, Tiling, Flip, Rotate and Chromakey commands.
Each 2G+4+ Tiling Transmitter has four 2G receivers built in with one 2G+AVPro HD/IP post-mix transmitter that puts the tiled image onto the network switch, making it available for every integrated screen in the building. Whether the project is a residence or a sports bar wanting to watch four games at once, the 2G+4+ can deliver a high quality HD video viewing experience.
