For the 12th year in a row, CE Pro sister publication Electronic House has recognized some of the most groundbreaking smart homes through its prestigious Home of the Year Awards. From home automation and networking to multiroom audio and home theater, these homes have some of the most spectacular high-tech systems created in the past year.
This year there were 29 winners from 10 categories, each more beautiful than the next. Entries were judged on the high level of innovation, creativity and customization demonstrated in the design and installation of smart systems.
For the second straight year, CE Pro is rolling out this profile of winners to once again highlight the work of our integrator readership. Click the Gold winners to see full articles (with photos, of course) going into the details of each project. The Silver and Bronze winning homes will be released as individual stories on CEPro.com in the coming weeks. Every home is also featured in the August 2017 issue of CE Pro.
New to the contest this year was a Best International Smart Home category, and in effort to showcase the diverse range of home styles that embody the annual showcase of connected homes, we divided a couple of the categories into Traditional home designs and Modern/Contemporary home designs.

The products and systems integrated into these amazing residences run the gamut, but there are a few solutions that prevail as favorites among the winning home systems integration firms.
Sony projectors, for example, are installed in 11 of the projects; Paradigm is the most-used speaker brand; and Control4 and Savant are the top two automation systems of choice among the Gold, Silver and Bronze winning entries.
Stalwarts such as Lutron’s lighting controls, Crestron’s automation, Middle Atlantic’s equipment racks and Sonance’s architectural speakers, to name a few, are also well represented.
We saw a few “fresh faces” too — products and systems that we hadn’t seen much of in past Home of the Year equipment lists. It’s clear that networking is high on integrators’ priority list, as nearly every home was outfitted with an enterprise-grade system, and Pakedge being the most prevalent brand.
Motorized draperies and shades from QMotion had a strong showing this year, as did intercom systems from Holovision.
No matter what brands of systems were employed, every award-winning home this year demonstrates the pleasing blend of design and technology.
Integrators, builders and interior designers seem to be collaborating closer than ever before, as these home look at stunning. How does your own work compare to these projects?
