Lou Sall of California Audio Technology (CAT) isn’t quite Steve Austin, aka the “Six Million Dollar Man” of 1970s TV fame, but he came close at CEDIA 2017. At the company’s booth, Sall, national sales manager at CAT, was the “$400,000 man” as he spun classic vinyl, such as The Beatles' “Abbey Road” and Blu-rays on nearly a half-million-dollars-worth of equipment.
The CAT booth, which was only 10×20-feet, held:
- Two CAT Sequoias ($258,000/pair)
- Four Scientific Audio Technology (SAE) 2HP-D amplifiers ($19,995 each)
- VPI turntable with cartridge ($12,500)
- Theta Gen VIII Series pre-amp ($15,000)
- CAT Elite DSP ($15,900)
- Theta Compli Blu Blu-ray disc player ($4,000)
- All of the equipment was displayed on XTC Racks.
“We are having lots of fun,” says Sall, regarding the experience. Attendees at the show in San Diego were able to break from the hustle and bustle of the show floor to listen to the demo, albeit was not in an enclosed environment like in the Sound Rooms on the exhibit floor or in the High Performance Audio room upstairs.
Indeed, the CAT booth at CEDIA 2017 is proof that big things can come in small packages.
