What would your customers do to save money on your summertime cooling bills? Reduce the time they run the AC? Program their thermostats? According to the Lennox Home Energy Report Card, many homeowners are willing to endure higher temperatures at home during the summer months to decrease their monthly electric bill by $50. Thirty-seven percent would raise their thermostat 3 to 6 degrees, while only 14 percent would be unwilling to change the temperature at all. As a last resort, 33 percent of homeowners say they would rather walk around in their underwear at home than spend money to cool down their house.

Thirty-three percent would strip down? Consumers go into a huge energy-saving mode during the hottest summer months, and if that means undressing, so be it. It only seems natural that going au naturel would require some extra assurance of privacy. Here’s where you can proffer the benefits of shading. It’s not only helps reduce solar gain, but preserves a person’s privacy. If shading seems a stretch, there are plenty of other energy-saving solutions that can help take a bite out of high summertime utility bills.

Other tactics Lennox survey respondents noted as a way to cut back on their electric bills during the summer:

28 percent would search for unused appliances to unplug, others start turning off lights or research news ways to save energy. Suggest smart plugs that cut electricity at preset times of the day.

55 percent program their thermostats. Suggest stats engineered to adjust automatically according to outdoor conditions and/or a family’s cooling habits.

73 percent change the filter in their heating and cooling system monthly. Suggest a system that can remind homeowners of this and other home maintenance tasks.
