This Scottsdale, Ariz.-area home featuring high-end audio and video solutions was built by the president and CEO of Build Magazine Ted Bainbridge, so you know it’s going to be impressive. The home features incredible views of the surrounding Arizona landscape while featuring modern luxury and entertainment, especially the exterior space that blurs the lines between indoor outdoor living.
“We love to entertain and we’ve always got company,” Bainbridge says. “And so, we wanted a vibrant outdoor place to live.”
Seamless Flow From Indoor to Outdoor Living Area
In order to design a home that allows for seamless flow from inside to the outdoor entertainment area, architects and builders first had to account for the hot, abundant Arizona sun.
According to Scott Carson, founder of architecture firm Cosan Studio, the views on the let were to the west, where the sun sets. Leveraging simulation software, architects were able to see how the sun would play on the structure and provide covered patios and overhands to help mitigate the sun and provide sufficient shade.
The plan called for the home slowly emerging as first a stucco mass and then a large monolithic stone wall before the front entry opens to view. Two art galleries flank the front entrance and allow for a brief glimpse into the home and the art on display. Once the front door is opened visitors see a view of the mountains.

“Then you realize the magic of the site and the way the home is placed on the lot,” Carson says. “The home unfolds and the views are exposed the deeper you go into the residence.”
To achieve the desired effect of merging the outdoor space and pool area with the home’s interior, a natural stone that mimics the interior porcelain floors was chosen for outside. The home’s architectural stacked stone and stucco surfaces highlight the windows and doors.
Bainbridge Says Motorized Ceiling Lift Brings ‘Cool Factor’ to View
The outdoor space wouldn’t be complete without a seating area and drop-down 65-inch Sony TV, and this was achieved thanks to the Nexus 21 drop down TC lift, which can be hidden to allow for unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape and mountains.
However, users can use an iPhone app or nearby iPad to drop the TV down to their desired viewing height.
While completely hidden in the ceiling when desired, the most impactful luxury element in this outdoor space is the Nexus 21 drop down TV lift with a 65-inch TV. This motorized TV lift is secreted away when the surrounding views need to be enjoyed, but at the command of an iPhone app or with a nearby iPad, it elegantly drops down to the perfect viewing height in the lounge seating area. It is also connected to a Crestron system for control.
The Nexus 21 model CL-65e was designed for high ceilings and homeowners looking for a more flexible viewing experience, as it can be installed in the ceiling framing or bolted directly to the surface.
“TVs are an important part of the homeowners’ lifestyle, and incorporating TVs on the exterior can be problematic,” said Carson. “However, the Nexus 21 lift was the perfect solution.”
According to Bainbridge, the outdoor TV and motorized lift add the “cool factor” to the home.
All three TVs in the home’s great room are visible from outside, and the 65-inch outdoor TV in the Nexus drop-down lift make the home an ideal setting for watching sports. Sonance speakers were also used throughout the home, and the project also included a home theater.
“We must sit outside at least five days a week and watch TV,” Bainbridge adds.
