A lot of companies can be described as diverse, but few companies can claim the diversity that Audio-Technica provides to the consumer and professional audio markets.
With products that range from Dante-based commercial conferencing solutions, to headphones and microphones, Audio-Technica has been providing a choice of audio products to dealers in both markets for more than 50 years.
Bolstering its selection of consumer phono cartridges, the decades-old manufacturer has introduced a new flagship phono cartridge that it says moves the category forward through its unique design.
“The AT-ART1000 represents a significant sonic and technological advancement not just for Audio-Technica, but for the entire field of phono cartridge design,” says Crystal Griffith, marketing manager, Audio-Technica. “By placing the moving coils, which convert the motion of the stylus and cantilever into electrical signals, directly on top of the stylus rather than at the base of the cantilever—the way it's done with conventional cartridge designs—the negative sonic effects of the cantilever are eliminated, resulting in pure, more accurate audio reproduction.”
Audio-Technica explains the cartridge's Direct Power System places the product's dual-moving coils directly on top of the stylus tip to enable the cartridge to produce, “extraordinary fidelity, musical detail and transient response.”
Each of the cartridge's moving coils is made of 20 µm diameter PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) wire, which is wound eight turns to form two loops 0.9mm in diameter. These coils are placed in a small (0.6mm) gap within powerful magnetic circuit to enable the coils to generate an 0.2mV stereo audio signal.
In addition, the cartridge features a high-performance line-contact stylus and solid boron cantilever, and a support base made from titanium to provide a light and stiff foundation for the magnetic circuit, stylus and cantilever.
The AT-ART1000 produces a wide frequency response of 15Hz to 30kHz, and it is designed to pair with a variety of high-performance turntables. MSRP is $5,000.
