One of the big takeaways from the recently completed CEDIA 2016 show is that true 4K Ultra HD requires much more bandwidth than any format the consumer market has ever seen before.
As the market transitions from HD to 4K and high-performance add-on technologies such as HDR and wide color gamuts (WCGs) that really bring this resolution to life, it means dealers need to be prepared to install infrastructure that supports these technologies.
Helping to meet this new requirement is the Canadian company Pixelgen Design.
The Burlington, Ontario-based manufacturer introduced three signal-transmission products during the show that include its THX certified PXLDRIVE signal processing solution.
“As 4K Ultra HD technology matures and content creators begin supporting the format in its full potential, we observe that in long-reach applications inferior interconnects can impede the entertainment experience,” says Matt Severaid, director of integrated product marketing, THX. “THX certification also ensures that all HDMI functionality, including CEC 2.0 and ARC, are supported by the cables.”
PXLDRIVE is a retrofit solution that Pixelgen offers in a choice of either 10 meters or 15 meters, and the device installs between preexisting cables and a display.
Other products Pixelgen displayed during CEDIA 2016 include its 4K 18Gbps Pixelgen cable products. Pixelgen says the cables are available in lengths of 0.3m, 0.5m, 1 meter, 2 meters, 3 meters and 5 meters, and they support today's A/V formats.
In addition, the company also showed its Pixelgen Fiber products. Pixelgen says this optical/ fiber hybrid interconnect helps to ensure full HDMI compatibility over lengths of 20 and 30 meters.
Summarizing the products, Jack MacDougall, founder of Pixelgen Design, says the company's range of Max 4K Interconnect support all formats, including 4K at 60Hz, 4:4:4 subsampling, HDR and WCGs.
