With the housing market bouncing back and custom installation categories such as home theater and whole-house audio gaining momentum once again, it's no surprise that speaker companies are developing a completely new generation of architectural speakers.
A good example of how audio companies are stepping up to meet the demand for home audio products can be found with Atlantic Technology.
Adding to its line of architectural speaker products, the suburban Boston-based company has introduced its IW-110LCR and IW-105LCR in-wall loudspeakers. Atlantic Technology says the products have been developed to serve the residential market in a variety of ways, including home theater and whole-house audio, and with their paintable grilles dealers can install them in a range of locations without disrupting a home's interior design.
Both speakers feature 6.5-inch mineral damped polymer woofers, 1-inch dome tweeters and crossover networks that incorporate first-order slopes that crossover at 3.5kHz. The IW-110LCR employs a midrange/tweeter/midrange driver array that when mounted vertically produces broad left/right soundstage. When mounted horizontally, Atlantic Tech says that dealers can install it as a center-channel speaker that discreetely complements flat-panel televisions and acoustically transparent projection screens.
The smaller IW-105LCR offers similar performance, but in a lower priced package. Both models also incorporate easy-to-use mounting clamp systems and magnetic grilles.
Atlantic Tech states the 6-ohm IW-110LCR is 89dB sensitive, and it provides a frequency response of 52Hz to 20kHz. The 6-ohm IW-105LCR is 87dB sensitive, and it provides a frequency response of 56Hz to 20kHz.
