9 Interesting Home Automation Things You Might Have Missed at CEDIA

CE Pro's Julie Jacobson discovers little home automation products and features that were easy to miss at CEDIA 2017, including Global Cache's potential as smart-home hub, and good news on Nest API.

Slide 1 of 10

Global Cache’s ‘Connect’ is Modular Home Automation Hub

Global Cache used to be known as the industry’s most popular IP enabler. Want to get an RS-232 product on the network? Use a GC serial/IP adapter. Control IR products with an app? GC has a dongle for that. Contact-closure devices? Trigger them over the network with a little black GC box.

Earlier this year, GC introduced the Global Connect line of products, featuring a modular chassis that lets developers build their own home-automation boxes for whatever they wish to control. Now there’s a Raspberry Pi module for building a smart box, as well as an HDMI switcher with CEC control.

At CEDIA, several companies were using Connect in their products or demos, including Control Envy (more on them later) and Barco.

Pictured is the configuration used by Control Envy.
