Winner: 23 Racks to Power 370 Shades, 34 HVAC Zones | Vidacom Chicago-based Vidacom principal David Haddad isn’t shy about it. “This is the most advanced equipment room I’ve ever seen in a residence,” he says. It’s hard to disagree. The main equipment room is 1,000 square feet and houses 12 of the property’s 23 equipment racks, as well as 50 in-wall electronic panels of various types. The room features a raised floor system for access to all the wires underneath, not something you see in a typical or even high-end residential installation. “Raised floor systems are prominent in high-end data centers,” says Haddad. “For this project, the benefits were aesthetics (no visible wiring above) resulting in an ultra-clean appearance, increased headroom (no cable ladders hanging from the ceiling), easy management of huge wire bundles due to a full 8 inches beneath the floor and extreme ease of cable moves and changes.”
