Walter Cronkite Tours ‘Home of the Future’
Imagine a single screen that can give you the weather and stock reports!
Walter Cronkite takes us on a tour of the “home of the future” in the CBS show The 21st Century … in 1967.
The predictions were pretty much spot-on, including window panes that can turn opaque or transparent at the press of the button.
In the first video, Cronkite tells of the smart home that lets you view the evening programs on the big screen … in 3D … and full color.
Home of the future
Then, taking us through the home office of the future, Cronkite demonstrates a console that provides “a summary of news relayed by satellite from all over the world,” and the same console can provide both weather and stock reports!
Home office of the future
The best thing about the office? The man of the house can work at home (while the wife is cooking and cleaning, presumably).
Speaking of cooking, Cronkite totally misses the mark on the kitchen of the future ….
