URC Improves Mobile Platform, Adds Android, Refreshes UI
Demonstrated at CEDIA Expo 2014, new mobile platform for URC Total Control and ccGEN2 offers Android support, streamlined interface, new features such as multi-home dashboard.
Good news, Android lovers. URC now has an app for you. In fact, when URC was creating its Android app for Total Control and ccGEN2 the company went ahead and changed its mobile platform altogether, so even the latest iOS version is fresh and new. The apps will be demonstrated at CEDIA Expo 2014
“This is our migration to one consistent mobile app,” says director of marketing Cat Toomey.
Toomey says that the new app, now called URC Mobile, mimics the look and feel of URC’s “GT” interface – with its “better, cooler layout and graphical appearance”—found in the company’s MRX-20 TV on-screen display (OSD) and TKP-7000 touchpanel UI.
Meanwhile, URC has added some features not available in earlier apps.
For example, users can create different password-protected profiles for controlling multiple homes or properties, will views available from a single dashboard.
Also, the app provides a SHORTCUT option for adding favorite devices to the home page of a mobile device. Users can see at-a-glance the status of those devices without opening the URC app. At the same time, they can select a SHORTCUT to jump directly to the device page in the app.
The Android app is available now, and the new iOS app will be available shortly after CEDIA.
A note from URC: URC Mobile for iOS and URC Mobile for Android apps enable control of A/V products via a Wi-Fi connection. Based on the type of URC system, a Total Control MRX-Series Advanced Network Controller or a ccGEN2 CP Processor is required to access the features above. Unlimited devices can be setup in one system with one Setup Card/Code. Users of the existing Total Control or ccGEN2 Mobile App for iOS are not required to immediately switch to the new URC Mobile app. Both versions may be installed on the same iOS device, but only one version can run at a time. Future updates will not be made for the existing app version. URC Dealers who have purchased the existing app version do not need to purchase a new setup code for URC Mobile. For details, customers are urged to contact their URC Sales Manager or Customer Service team.
