URC Dealers in the Lurch after Control4 Acquisition of Extra Vegetables

URC dealers cut off from their Extra Vegetables accounts not at all happy with Control4’s acquisition of the software developer.

At ISE 2013, URC and Extra Vegetables announced a partnership for driver development.

Control4 acquired third-party driver developer company Extra Vegetables yesterday, scoring a big win for Control4 dealers who now get all of that EV software and tech support for free.

Not so happy are the legions of URC dealers who have been using Extra Vegetables since EV started developing for Total Control last year.

Without warning, their EV dealer accounts were closed, and their existing purchases face expiration in 90 days.

CE Pro has received several emails, tweets and comments from URC dealers who are not happy about their now-inactive EV accounts. They have relied on the software developer for such key URC Total Control drivers as Sonos and iTunes.

Jason Vizthum (@Integralmaui) tweeted: “EV also left numerous URC dealers in the lurch. They shut the website off. This was a shady deal by EV and C4. Shameful!”

On the original story, “URC Dealer” commented, “So far the transition has been anything but smooth.”

At CEDIA Expo today, we’ll ask URC about its plans to fill the EV gap.

Below is the letter that EV dealers received from Extra Vegetables:
