PS Audio PowerBase Combines Isolation & Power Conditioning Technologies
PS Audio has recently added to its line of power conditioning solutions with the announcement of its new PerfectWave PowerBase that combines power conditioning and isolation technologies all in a single device.
Often times it’s the small details of an audio/video system that can make the difference between good and great performance. The newly announced PerfectWave PowerBase from PS Audio is engineered to solve two of the most overlooked problems that can hurt the performance of an audio/video system: microphonic vibration and poor electrical power quality.
PS Audio says the PowerBase is engineered to provide vibration control, and according to the Rocky Mountain-based manufacturer, the PowerBase utilizes an isolation approach in which two subsystems for vibration control are used. The first subsystem the company explains uses high-durometer Sorbothane feet attached to a steel chassis that is tuned to 30Hz to create an initial level of energy dissipation. The second subsystem is mounted inside the unit’s chassis and it is tuned down to 3Hz. PS Audio says the second subsystem achieves its energy dissipation through low-durometer Sorbothane feet that support a 20 pound 1/4-inch steel floating platform the equipment sits on. PS Audio concludes that through its implementation of a combination of soft suspension, high-mass platform coupled with a stiff suspension, low-mass body, the PerfectWave PowerBase forms a broad spectrum energy dissipation system that electronics professionals can easily use in the field.
The unit’s power conditioning is accomplished through a PS Audio design that features a low-loss power filter that reduces differential- and common-mode noise generated from a home’s AC lines. PS Audio says the PowerBase provides noise reduction for differential- and common-mode line noise at >40dB starting at 100kHz and it applies this filtration equally to incoming and outgoing lines. The made in the U.S.A. product weighs 25 pounds and it accepts voltages ranging from 90VAC to 280VAC 50Hz/60Hz.
