Polk doesn’t seem to be giving up on packing sound into one speaker. The latest addition to their SurroundBar line will soon be the SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater (IHT).

What gives this unit its IHT status is that it comes with a wireless subwoofer, making home theater as easy as adding a TV.

“The market has been calling for a solution as straightforward as this one,” says Mark Suskind, VP of Polk’s product line management. “Until now there have been too many compromises needed to get convincing home theater audio that’s also convenient for the consumer.”

The SurroundBar, to be on hand at CES 2009, packs four 2.5-inch treated composite bass-midrange drivers, along with two 13mm polymer dome tweeters that provide a high-frequency response out to 22 KHz. Naturally, it also features Polk’s own SDA Stereo Dimensional Array Technology.

A matching 6.5-inch subwoofer completes the package. One thing about some of these one-piece packages is that you’ll eventually need to add wire clutter into the mix. Not so here. This unit has an integrated wireless transmitter, which means you can place the sub anywhere it sounds good. You will, however, need connections to the stereo output jacks of any TV.

Polk’s IHT is expected to ship this month.

OWM5 Speaker Offers 9 Install Options

There’s a slew of speakers out there that can handle every type of application. Now Polk wants to provide a solution for nine of your favorite scenarios with its OWM5.

Designed for use in home theater, gaming or other audio setups, the OWM5 promises killer Polk sound in a unit that can sit on the floor or mount to a wall — in a 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1 configuration. You can also flip the unit to fit your mood, because it works horizontally and vertically.

Inside, the OWM5 has two 4.5mm mid-bass drivers and a 1-inch soft-dome tweeter.

“Our dealers have been asking us for a solution like this, because in today’s homes, consumers expect to have great sound everywhere — it’s a given,” says Mark Suskind, Polk’s VP of Product Line Management.

In case you can’t wait, Polk already has the OWM3, which boasts seven different install options. Expect the OWM5 to hit in March.
