Plasma Shipments Increase 1% in Q2, Report Says
Panasonic regains top spot in market as revenue shares surged to 36.8 percent.
Global plasma display panel (PDP) shipments increased 1 percent Q/Q to 3.5 million units in Q2, according to a DisplaySearch report.
The “Plasma and LCD TV Panel Shipment Module of the Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report” attributes the small growth to weak demand in North America and China.
Panasonic regained the top spot as revenue shares surged more than 7 points to 36.8 percent on 23 percent Y/Y growth.
More than 43 percent of Panasonic’s PDP shipments were 1080p models, accounting for over 70 percent of all 1080p PDP shipments.
Shipments of 1080p models increased 89 percent Q/Q and 333 percent Y/Y as 1080p accounts for 21 percent of all PDP shipments.
Samsung fell from the top spot despite 49 percent Y/Y growth, the largest of any supplier.
LG dropped from second to third in Q2’08, according to the report.
Hitachi and Pioneer shares decreased 22 percent and 8 percent, respectively.
