Control4 (NASDAQ: CTRL) can add another TV feather to its home automation cap: Panasonic is adopting the company’s Simple Device Discovery Protocol (SDDP) for easy integration into a smart-home ecosystem.

Panasonic joins Sony in the SDDP club. Last year Sony announced that all of its new 4K Ultra HD TVs would incorporate the technology.

Products with SDDP simply show up in Control4’s programming software – no need to guess the product or download drivers. The system finds, identifies, authenticates and connects the SDDP device as soon as you plug it in.

Audio and video typically are the trickiest products to enroll and control in a smart home environment, so SDDP is a huge benefit to installers and consumers alike.

Panasonic is introducing at CES 2015, its new Firefox OS-powered “Beyond Smart” line of “Life+ Screen” Ultra HD TVs, featuring a high degree of interactivity and user customization.

Over 100 CE manufacturers, including Bose, Denon, Dish and TiVo incorporate SDDP in some 500 devices.
