Panamax Now Shipping BlueBOLT MD2-ZB SmartPlug & BB-ZB1 Gateway
The MD2-ZB Smart Plug and BB-ZB1 Gateway are Panamax's latest additions to its BlueBOLT series of products which provide surge protection and energy monitoring to users in residential and commercial building environments.
Before the term smart grid entered the vocabulary of the general public, the Petaluma, Calif.-based manufacturer Panamax introduced the first of its now growing array of BlueBOLT products which combine the benefits of surge protection and energy management.
The latest additions to the BlueBOLT product line are the MD2-ZB Smart Plug and the BB-ZB1 BlueBOLT Gateway. Panamax says like the other products in the BlueBOLT family, the Smart Plug and Gateway deliver surge protection and energy management to individual outlets in homes and offices. “The MD2-ZB Smart Plug and BB-ZB1 Gateway represent a significant extension of the BlueBOLT platform; taking it beyond the equipment rack to individual power outlets,” notes John Benz, director of power and accessories, Core Brands.
“For end users this not only provides surge protection for all their devices, but it can help give them a true indicator of their power consumption and how to best cut it down. For integrators, the ability to expand BlueBOLT’s remote/reboot benefits outside of the equipment rack provides tremendous flexibility to better serve their customers.”
The MD2-ZB Smart Plug is part of Panamax’s “MD” family of direct plug-in devices and it provides energy monitoring, individual outlet control, scheduled conservation and surge protection in a solution that is compact. Panamax says the product utilizes the ZigBee wireless communications protocol and it houses two side-mounted outlets, as well as status indicators that communicate network connectivity and wiring faults.
The plug-and-play BB-ZB1 Gateway connects to a user’s network via Ethernet and it creates a wireless mesh network that supports as many as 15 Smart Plugs per gateway. Once a system is set up users can access their power and energy management options from anywhere in the world.
