Pakedge Device & Software has entered into a technology partnership with Fortinet, a network security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions.

Victor Pak, president of Pakedge, Device & Software, says the partnership will offer previously unavailable security technology to the custom residential market and it will support the continuing growth of converging technologies in the home.

“We saw a real need for this type of collaboration,” notes Pak. “As more AV products switch to IP-based networks, residential customers have been demanding commercial quality networking gear and are often left with unsatisfactory options. With this collaboration, homeowners can now get Fortinet’s enterprise-class network security solution combined with Pakedge’s easy-to-use, IP-based networking devices.”

Pak describes the decision to partner with Fortinet by explaining that homeowners today need a solution that is powerful and flexible, and Fortinet is a leader in its field.

“Creating an all-around robust network is key,” he notes. “In designing the new series of Pakedge routers, we needed an industry-leading security provider to team up with and Fortinet is the best you can get.  We’re confident that the residential consumer will see some excellent results from this partnership.”

Highlighting some of the products that will be used from Fortinet’s product line, the company’s FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate essential security applications such as antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web content filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping.

All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet’s FortiGuard Network, which helps to ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions and other unwanted network traffic.

The first of these companies collaborations that CE Pros will see is the implementation of the Fortinet FortiGate-50B appliance with Pakedge’s router devices. According to Pakedge, the FortiGate-50B is a featured component within the new Pakedge RB-KIT, which is a pre-configured router and security appliance, and the Pakedge RSB-KIT, which is a pre-configured router, security appliance and eight-port Gigabit switch.  Pakedge says these two enterprise-class routers are designed for even the largest of homes, they are easy to use and they are backed by the support services of Pakedge.
