Pakedge Gigabit Switch Includes Fiber & Ethernet Connectivity
Pakedge's latest switch, the S26e features the option of two fiber ports that can be used simultaneously with the unit's gigabit Ethernet ports, and like other Pakedge network solutions, all of the network cables connect in the rear to facilitate a clean installation in a rack or cabinet.
It cannot stressed enough that in today’s world of electronic media that a home network is a consumer’s most important purchase. A home network supports a homeowner’s ability to surf the Internet, share files, download documents and backbone their growing consumption of web-based entertainment.
Pakedge, a Foster City, Calif.-based manufacturer of networking components has just introduced its latest product to support a homeowner’s ability to reliably surf, download and stream content from the Internet, as well as other content that resides on their network. The Bay area company’s new S26e 24-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch is engineered to support a home or small businesses’ ability to stream HD video; download data intensive high resolution files, share and distribute files within a network, and support their network’s evolution as technology changes.
“The S26e is an enterprise-class gigabit Ethernet switch and an easy-to-use network switching solution for custom installation A/V applications, smart home networks and security systems,” explains Victor Pak, president and CEO of Pakedge. “It’s also the first Pakedge switch that enables Ethernet and fiber ports to be used at the same time which provides greatly enhanced versatility for the installer.”
Pakedge says the “e” in the product’s name stands for “express” and it points out the unmanaged switch is a plug-and-play solution that installs quickly. The switch incorporates 24 ports 10/100/1000 Mbps gigabit Ethernet ports, as well as two small form factor pluggable (SFP) mini-GBIC fiber ports that can be used simultaneously with the Ethernet ports. The company says the fiber ports can be used in situations where longer cabling runs are needed, and that like other Pakedge networking solutions, the S26e’s wiring connections are made from the rear of the product to facilitate clean and accessible installations in environments that include racks and cabinets.
Other features that Pakedge includes in the 26e switch is an Automatic Loop Detection that prevents looping issues where a device’s cable may be incorrectly plugged into the wrong input, and the company’s store-and-forward architecture that filters and forwards data packets without slowing and blocking data activity. Pakedge adds the unit also incorporates its Auto-MDI/MDI-X functionality that eliminates the need for crossover cables; blue LED indicator lights that communicate network status, and the 1U-high unit also supports the NWay auto-negotiation protocol that automatically detects network speeds and full/half duplex modes.
