The Penn.-based electronics manufacturer Lutron Electronics has been at the forefront of consumer education, product solutions and other resources in the areas of energy efficiency for a number of years. One of the ways this well-known and diverse manufacturer is enabling consumers to increase their homes’ energy efficiency is through a variety of lighting control solutions that includes shade products.

This past September Lutron announced that it is augmenting its line of shade products by providing homeowners with a wider selection of sizes, as well as new cable guided and skylight shade products. Lutron explains that its battery-powered, insulated honeycomb shades provide consumers with a choice of quiet and convenient products that are priced at levels that are affordable to a larger group of homeowners than what older, traditional shade products are priced at, and it points out that through the use of its Triathlon technology, existing homeowners will average three years of battery life which helps them to save the cost of retrofitting traditional automated shades into their properties.

Some of the features of the new cable-guided and skylight shades include:

  • Cables prevent shades from swaying which facilitates their use with French doors and other areas that are heavily used.
  • The cable-guided shades can be mounted at angles as shallow as 30 degrees off horizontal to support their use with most residential skylights.
  • The insulating honeycomb shades are available in sizes as narrow as 14.5 inches and as large as 96 inches by 96 inches in all fabric and headrail types for use with windows, doors and picture windows.
  • Lutron offers its honeycomb shade products in a choice of single-cell light filtering, double-cell light filtering and room darkening options for use in dedicated theater spaces, media rooms and other rooms that require low light levels.
