Liberty Moves Beyond Just ‘Wire & Cable’

Changing its name to Liberty AV Solutions, the company best known for RGB and coax cables now offers a full slate of racks, mounts, baluns and services to enhance dealer cash flow.

Spools of wire can be such a drag. That’s just one reason why Liberty Wire & Cable recently changed its name to Liberty AV Solutions.

While the company is still selling its share of RGB, coax and other staples, “with the analog-to-digital shift, we need to not be so dependent on bulk wire,” says president John Dace.

Liberty has partnered with Intelix to distribute a wide variety of baluns and other A/V distribution products, as well as Installer’s Choice for modular mounts, racks and related accessories (pdf catalog).

Sold exclusively through Liberty, IC’s SnapRax system “goes together in the field in less than seven minutes,” Dace tells CE Pro. “I’m the least mechanically inclined and even I could put it together.”

Explaining that “Liberty is about increasing efficiency,” the company also has implemented a consignment program for mounts, cable and related accessories.

Through the company’s Liberty Inventory Services, dealers can stock higher-volume products in their own warehouses, and pay only as the inventory is used, thus minimizing holding costs and avoiding last-minute shipping emergencies.

In other Liberty news, the company is doing well internationally (less so in the U.S.) with its Flatwire uber-thin cables, especially of the speaker-wire variety. The company is working on HDMI and power products for the line.

Liberty is also “doing a lot of fiber,” says Dace. In all, fiber is “up triple digits” and is starting to pick up in residential. Supplier Fibertron is a sister company through Liberty’s parent CSC.

Based in Colorado Springs, Colo., Liberty AV Solutions is a subsidiary of Communications Supply Corporation, which is owned by WESCO International, Inc., a publicly-traded Fortune 500 holding company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa.
