As far as bang-for-your-buck audio brands go, for many enthusiasts, there are few manufacturers that match the cost/performance ratio provided by Parasound.

This San Francisco-based company provides dealers and consumers a choice between its wallet-friendly “classic” series and its high-performance, but cost-competitive Halo lines of products. At the 2015 International CES, the California company is previewing its latest Halo series product—-the Halo 2.1 integrated amplifier.

The soon-to-be-released integrated amp is engineered to offer a space-conscious amplification solution that incorporates provisions to handle analog, digital and amplification all within a single package. Headlining its digital horsepower capabilities is the latest-generation ESS Sabre32 Reference DAC chips (ES9018K2M), USB connectivity that includes Asynchronous USB 2.0 with support for files up to 32-bit/384kHz in the PCM format, and home-theater bypass functions.

Over in the analog domain, the integrated amp incorporates a moving magnet (MM)/moving coil (MC) input with capabilities for 47k and 100 ohm load cartridges, analog bass management with high- and low-pass crossovers, a front-panel subwoofer level control, a dedicated high-current headphone amplifier, equalization controls, and a choice of XLR and RCA inputs that includes subwoofer options.

The Class A/B amplification section features a John Curl topology design, along with an oversized, shielded toroidal power transformer, a dual-mono power supply, 40,000uF power-supply filter capacitance, matched JFET input stages, MOSFET driver stages, and 12 high-voltage/high-current bipolar output transistors. According to Parasound, through the amplifier’s high-current design it is capable of delivering 160 watts per channel into an 8-ohm load and 240-watts into a 4-ohm load.

Some of the dealer features Parasound built into the product include rear-panel IR inputs and IR loop output jacks, and 12-volt input and output to support trigger functions.
