Haier Launches Smart Home Centre ZigBee Enabled Tablet
Chinese appliance and electronics manufacturer Haier is introducing a home automation hub, called Smart Home Centre, at Mobile World Congress. The ZigBee-based home automation controller is built into a touchscreen tablet.
Haier, the Chinese manufacturer of cheap TVs, major appliances and other electronics, is introducing at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona a touchscreen home automation device called Smart Home Centre.
Built into a 6-inch touchscreen tablet, the system features WiFi, Bluetooth and ZigBee for home control.
Beyond the ZigBee-based control, the tablet performs the feats of a typical mobile device, for example streaming content and shooting video.
A SIM slot allows users to add GSM or 3G cellular cards which, the company suggests, allows users to “transform the living room into a videoconference” using the tablet’s front-facing camera and a WiFi dongle for the TV.
A docking station adds four speakers to the device.
A mock-up of the unit was shown for the first time at CES 2014.
The Smart Home Centre is expected to ship in the second quarter of this year at a price of 499 euros.
