Elan is shipping its new remote thermostat sensors, enabling more precise temperature and humidity control in smart-home environments.

ELAN, part of the Nortek Security & Control (NSC) family of brands says that it is shipping three new sensors that help homeowners to more evenly distribute heat and humidity levels throughout a home.

"When paired with the ELAN Wi-Fi Touchscreen Thermostat, these flush-mount sensors enable users to average the temperature of up to four different locations to provide the perfect environment," states Neal Ellsworth, product manager, Nortek Security & Control.

"Embedded with the ELAN beacon, they make installation easier for ELAN dealers, while making temperature control even more seamless for homeowners."

ELAN Thermostat Sensors Address Various Smart Home Applications

Engineered to fully complement its EL-TSTAT-8820 Wi-Fi Thermostat, the combination of the sensors and thermostat easily pair with new and ELAN home control and automation systems that are already installed in the field.

"One-click setup with ELAN Discovery allows installers to quickly configure the termostats to a new or existing ELAN system," adds Ellsworth.

"The Auto-Configure feature scans the network for devices, including wireless, and [it] adds devices to the ELAN ecosystem with just one click."

ELAN points out that in addition to the one-click setup option, the EL-TSTAT-8820 Wi-Fi Touchscreen Thermostat provides homeowners with the ability to monitor and control indoor air quality that includes automatic or manual humidity control, event-based air cleaning and ventilation.

In addition, the thermostat's touchscreen, includes an adjustable backlight that features room temperature, room humidity, temperature settings, outdoor temperature data, and a built-in message center that provides users with system information.

Here is a closer look at the Carlsbad, Calif.-based technology company's new sensors:

  • EL-TSTAT-SEN-8083: This solution is an indoor flush-mount remote temperature and humidity sensor that gathers temperature and humidity information. This information can be setup to average multiple units, which in turn can be sent to the ELAN thermostat.
  • EL-TSTAT-SEN-8051: ELAN explains this sensor helps manage hot and cold spots within a home to help HVAC systems produce more comfortable living environments. The sensor can be used to remotely monitor temperature and average temperatures, and it can override the temperature measured at its EL-TSTAT-8820 thermostat.
  • EL-TSTAT-SEN-8052: An Outdoor Remote Temperature Sensor, the 8052 is engineered for installation outdoors or within ductwork. The 8052 can be used for residential and light-commercial applications.
