Elan g! 6.2 Software Adds Weather-Based Automation Triggers
The new Elan g! 6.2 software allows CE pros to program specific automation events based on the local weather forecast, including shade, irrigation systems, thermostats and more.

It’s raining, better close the windows. The temperature is expected to drop, might want to bump up the heat. The sun is beaming and it’s hot, good idea to close the drapes and shades.
Your clients do so many things in and around their homes related to the conditions outside.
Realizing this, Elan Home Systems announced a new software update (6.2) to its popular g! home automation system that allows CE pros to program specific events based on the local weather forecast, resulting in greater convenience, safety and comfort for clients.
Conditions including temperature, humidity, wind, and weather alerts for your client’s geographic area can actuate devices like motorized window shutters, irrigation systems, thermostats and send email alerts.
The feature is enabled through Elan’s partnership with Weather Underground, which is part of the Weather Channel Companies. Just as the Elan g! can display on touchpanels, tablets and most recently with the 6.2 launch, the screen of TVs, the status reports of security devices, thermostats, lights and A/V equipment, it is now able to present the current weather conditions and forecasts.
Elan says its enhanced the g! system’s personalization capabilities with Power Variables, Boolean logic and structure work in the Configurator, resulting in simpler programming for integrators.
“Over the last year Elan has taken the g! system to new heights by adding electronic door lock integration, automatic importing of programming from connected third-party components, KNX support, Chinese language support, international streaming content, an Android g!Mobile app and an ever-growing list of drivers for third-party components, says Core Brands director of control category Joe Lautner. “What’s more,” Lautner adds, “dealer feedback on our recent system advancements has been very positive and is evidenced by our Q1 System realizing 30 pecent growth. We’d like to thank our dealers for their support and we look forward to a very strong 2013!”
