The momentum for 4K video products has been gaining a lot of steam over the past several months. Now with the technology entering the mass market, electronics professionals that want to add these solutions to their residential or commercial installations need to differentiate their offerings from their competitors.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based video manufacturer DVDO is supporting electronics professionals that have training and certification with organizations such as the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) through the release of its new AVLab TPG (Test Pattern Generator). DVDO says the TPG TPG supports 4K resolutions at 50Hz and 60Hz, and it meets HDMI 2.0 specifications for the testing and calibration of 4K TVs, projectors and displays.

DVDO points out the product is specifically designed to work with Color Management System (CMS) solutions like Spectracal’s CalMAN software. It provides a streamlined tool to dealers by its direct interface capabilities with CMS solutions to automatically display 4K test patterns.

“The AVLab TPG will be an essential tool for ISF calibrators and installers when setting up new 4K displays for optimum viewing quality,” notes Joel Silver, president and founder of the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF).

Some of the other features the test-pattern generator offers include a choice of 85 test patterns that range from scale and focus to PLUGE bars and ISF Day and Night PLUGE bars, dynamically generated patterns via USB control, and field-upgradeable firmware and test patterns.

“Four K Ultra HD displays are becoming increasingly common,” states C.H. Chee, general manager, DVDO. “Installers and calibrators clearly need to upgrade their equipment to continue to provide the same installation and setup services they have perfected at 1080p. AVLab TPG provides lab-quality 4K test patterns in a pocket-portable, PC-powered package that allows installers to match test pattern quality to the full capability of 4K UHD TVs.”
