DirecTV 3D Programming Scales Back
DirecTV is reducing the programming hours for its 3D channel, dubbed n3D, citing a lack of 3D content.
Integrators are not the only ones frustrated by the lack of momentum in 3D.
In yet another blow to 3D, DirecTV has cut back the programming hours of its 24-hour 3D channel, called n3D, due to a shortage of content, according to the Associated Press.
DirecTV launched n3D as a 24-hour channel in July 2010, but according to the AP, the lack of programming forced the satellite provider to run the same shows in a loop. Starting on June 1, DirecTV now just pops up an n3D logo on the screen when content does not exist. n3D costs an extra $10 per month for subscribers.
AT&T recently dropped ESPN 3D from its U-verse lineup, citing high costs and low demand. ESPN recently took offense to a CE Pro article asserting broadcasters are not committed to 3D.
DirecTV still plans to show the upcoming London Olympics in 3D.
