For the fifth year in a row, D&H Distributing co-presidents Michael and Dan Schwab have blown their chance at ever appearing in an episode of the ABC TV show “Undercover Boss”. The duo made their annual trip on December 5 to work at the company’s Harrisburg, Penn. warehouse for the holiday season and intermingle with employees.

The annual drop-in is a way for both Michael and Dan to show appreciation for the warehouse staff, to gain a more personal, ongoing perspective as to how the logistics of the business runs on a daily basis, and to enjoy some welcomed face time with team members who they don’t always see. Dan and Michael also met with local customers who visited the location personally to pick up orders.

“We love opportunities to work with different members of the D&H team,” says Dan. “We’ve always tried to create a family atmosphere at D&H, and there’s no time like the holidays to get together with friends and co-workers to let them know they are valued.  Especially during this demanding time of year, everyone in the distribution center is dedicated to making sure things run smoothly.  It’s invigorating take part in that.”

“Spending time in the warehouse helps keep us in touch with the greater goings-on of the team as a whole, with the added bonus of meeting with some of our customers,” adds Michael. “It reminds us of how much effort goes into our whole process, from the moment the salesperson takes an order to when the shipment goes out the doors.  We’re glad to belong to an organization with such outstanding co-owners, so we’re proud to be able to show them some admiration in person.”

Not that most integrators have to worry about doing something like this to understand what their employees do on a daily basis, but it’s a cool idea. When was the last time you crawled through an attic yourself?

The Schwabs get out on the warehouse floor every year and fill orders with their team.
