Denon Launches HEOS Wireless Audio System
Denon Electronics joins the wireless audio market free-for-all with its HEOS by Denon dual-band multiroom audio system with 3 players in the $299 to $599 price range.
Denon Electronics, part of D+M Group, has become the latest manufacturer to enter the wireless multiroom audio fray. The company has debuted its HEOS by Denon system that connects to a home’s Wi-Fi network to access multiple streaming services or local storage devices and is controlled by Android or iOS devices. The product line, sold direct via select Denon dealers and online, is set to hit the market this month.
The line, which was eight years in the works according to the company, includes three multi-zone music players (MSRP range from $299-$599) that can access cloud music services controllable with a single app. An optional access point range extender will be available to improve or expand the users existing home wireless network (sold separately).
According to Denon, among the key features are:
- Audiophile-level synchronization.
- Audio DSP optimization. Denon partnered with Waves Audio, to embed MaxxAudio by Waves, a digital signal processing (DSP) technology that enhances the sound.
- Acoustic design
- Integrated dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi to avoid interference from single-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth devices, microwave ovens, baby monitors and cordless phones. A Range Extender is also available to help strengthen the signal if necessary.
- A USB drive that allows the HEOS by Denon Multi-Room-Wireless Sound system to also stream music collections stored on a hard drive and thumb drive.

“HEOS by Denon represents the next evolution in products from Denon, a company that for over 100 years is still leading in sound quality, new technologies and innovative products that not only appeal, but anticipate what consumers are looking for,” says Brendon Stead, Denon’s vice president of product development. “The great-looking HEOS Multi-Room Wireless Speaker plays music contained on your smartphone. If you have more than one speaker, they can work as a multi-room system for your entire home. It’s the ideal audio set-up transferring Denon’s music experience to today’s busy consumer, allowing them to enjoy their favorite cloud music services to the fullest.”
The initial product launch introduction will be followed by pre-amp/amp expansion products. The pre-amp and amplifier products will allow for functionality of legacy audio products. The amps drive passive speaker systems and so additional zones of audio can be created. These are expected to be available in the months following the initial release and into 2015, and beyond.
