CE Pro of the Week: Shawn Hansson, Logic Integration
Learn why this integrator gave up the flute and why he waves around an iPhone or iPad whenever possible.
Shawn Hansson, CEO and founder, Logic Integration
If you had to use Twitter to describe your company (140 character limit), what would you write?
Logic Integration Inc. is a multi-award-winning custom installation/design firm installing networked audio, video and lighting systems in Colorado.
After you complete a project, what do you think your typical client tells his friend about the experience?
We have multiple letters from clients and 50-plus reviews on Citysearch [read them] and LinkedIn raving on our services and customer service. Often said: “This system is much easier than I thought to use, we love it!”
What can CE pros learn from your company that might help them run their business better?
One thing that has made our installations successful is the process. We are known for the processes we have from meeting the client all the way to a year after the install. (I was named by CE Pro editor Jason Knott “The process King.”)
We have a good hand off from sales to the install team. Make a good process that can expand with your business. Repletion is key for each job start to finish.

What trade tip can you offer your fellow CE pros?
We’ve been using the iPhone (and recently the iPad) for two years for things such as calibration in the field, keeping track of service calls, sales leads, all synced on our exchange server using some killer apps. We also sell a surveillance system every time we show our office on the iPhones.
What’s the wildest request you’ve ever had for an installation?
Well, there are two.
1. A few years ago with a great friend of mine, Jeff Crawford, we were asked to hang an 18-inch bagend powered sub above a $25,000 statue sitting in a special nook for the statue. We suspended the subwoofer by rigging aircraft cables about 30 feet in the air so the sub could be heard and not seen.
2. A customer wanted to have a large HDTV in his kitchen. We tore apart a Sub-Zero fridge to fit a 42-inch TV above it, mounted the TV on an arm and suspended it above the compressor and cooling elements on top of the fridge. We also had custom-made stainless steel trim to match the TV and fridge so they look like they are all one piece.
What is your 3D strategy, and will 3D live up to the hype?
Yes, I think it will live up to the hype, but people are just getting into HD so who knows the timeline. We did a huge DPI demo/open house for a $130,000 front projection system and our customers and builders love it. One may even buy it.
What is your absolute favorite piece of audio demo material?
I heard this song for the first time on a pair of $130,000 PMC speakers (PMC let us use these for an open house at our showroom) and almost fell off my chair … most amazing speakers I have ever heard in my 15 years in this industry.
What is your absolute favorite piece of video demo material?
Too many to pick from, sorry!
Beside, someone who is a videophile will make fun of me if I choose an animation.
What is something about you that most people don’t know?
In junior high, I started out playing the flute. Kids made fun of me in marching band, so I switched to drums and now play with vineyard music and play with different guest artists at my church along with regular worship.
Shawn Hansson is proud of Logic Integration’s candid reviews on CitySearch.
