CE Pro of the Week: Juan Mota, Vsys Automation

This integrator, whose two locations are 1,700 miles apart, is as passionate about architecture as he is about system design.

Juan Mota, principal, Vsys Automation

Each week, we aim to provide an informative - yet colorful - profile of one of your fellow CE pros. Interested in being featured yourself? See below.

How would you use Twitter to describe what your company does (140 character limit)?

A program and design firm specializing in home automation. Saving you time, energy & money even when you’re not at home.

After you complete a project, what do you think your typical client tells his friend about the experience?

“You need to use Vsys Automation because they simplify your life.”

Vsys Automation
  • Principal: Juan Mota, owner
  • Location: Healdsburg, Calif. (second branch in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico
  • Web site:
  • Years in Business: 6

What can CE pros learn from your company to make them think differently and run their business better?

1. Documentation is the most important part of a project. Without “proper” documentation the results tend to be horrendous.

2. True integrators should create and design with the intent of one system and not multiple standalone systems.

What trade tip can you offer your fellow CE pros?

Consider both spouses when designing a control system and not just the most technological.

What is your 3D strategy and do you think the technology will live up to the hype?

While we feel that 3D technology is still in its infancy stage, as a company we are staying up to date on all new technology - and have been providing 3D-compatible equipment to our clients not using 3D as a main selling point, but as a bonus feature to an exceptional product.

We believe that 3D technology has the potential to further envelope you into a greater suspension of disbelief.

What is your absolute favorite piece of audio demo material?

Queen: Rock Montreal & Live Aid. “Bohemian Rhapsody”

What is your absolute favorite piece of video demo material?

We tend to use “The Fifth Element” because it doubles as a great audio and video demo, or anything Michael Bay for the over-the-top action sequences.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

That my passion for Automation was derived from my passion for architecture.

Vsys Automation has one location in Healdsburg, Calif., north of San Francisco and another in Guadalajara, Mexico.
