Bose Signs World’s No. 1 Golfer Rory McIlroy to Endorsement Deal
Rory McIlroy, the world's No. 1 ranked golfer, signed a multi-year deal to endorse Bose headphones, speakers, home and automotive systems.
The most recognized name in consumer electronics might just get a whole lot more recognition among golfers, who tend to be high net-worth individuals.
Bose Corporation signed Rory McIlroy, the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world, to a multi-year agreement as a global brand ambassador for its headphones, portable speakers, home and automotive systems.
A lifelong music lover, McIlroy has been a Bose customer for years.
“I’ve always chosen Bose because I’ve always wanted the best sound quality I could get,” says McIlroy, who calls himself a “huge headphone guy,” adding, “Bose products are different. And Bose is different. They work hard at their innovations, they aren’t conventional, and they’re committed to doing things that haven’t been done before, just like I am.”
This is the first endorsement for McIlroy involving a consumer electronics brand, and he will only be representing Bose products that he uses. Currently, McIlroy owns the SoundLink Mobile speaker II, the Bose VideoWave II entertainment system, the Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones, and the Bose MIE2i mobile headset.
“We want Rory’s fans and our customers to know that if they hear from Rory about Bose, it’s on behalf of something he chooses – not something we choose for him,” says Maresca. Bob Maresca, president of Bose, who noted McIlroy’s “millions of fans around the world” during the announcement, which took place at the Honda Classic golf tournament. “He loves music, just like we do, and we’re thrilled to be a part of how he competes and relaxes.”
The efficient Bose marketing machine is already at work with photos and a video of McIlroy following the endorsement deal.
The agreement was finalized after McIlroy visited the Bose R&D facility in Framingham, Mass. at the company’s world headquarters. McIlroy, who is from Northern Ireland, is the 2012 U.S. PGA Tour Player of the Year and led both the PGA Tour and PGA European Tour money lists for 2012.
McIlroy even performed some impromptu golf tricks during the press announcement.
