Big-Box Retailers Including Abt Join ProSource as Associate Members
Abt Electronics, Nebraska Furniture Mart, other leading A/V retailers join ProSource buying group as associate members, while remaining in the competitive group NATM.
ProSource, which bills itself as the largest consumer electronics buying group in the U.S., has nabbed some of the country’s top audio, video, appliance and home automation retailers, including Abt Electronics, Nebraska Furniture Mart, ABC Warehouse, Video Only, RC Willey and BrandsMart.
The new retailer members, drawn from NATM Buying Corp., are joining as “associate members,” a new ProSource designation for “a very select number of larger regional dealers whose business would benefit from participation in the group’s audio, mobile, accessory and CI [custom integration] programs ….”
In other words, ProSource is tapping these large retailers to also purchase from ProSource in product lines that NATM does not currently represent.
The new designation might help ProSource deflect resentment from current members who don’t want to see big-box retailers and reputed discounters gain access to their product lines and special deals.

“Associate Members typically belong to another buying group and this arrangement does not change how they are serviced in any categories currently handled by their primary group affiliation,” according to ProSource. “When you combine the existing momentum of new member growth across all classification of dealers within ProSource, and then add the additional buying power represented by our new Associate Members, we truly have become the largest and finest representation of CI and retail dealers in the nation.”
The arrangement follows a collaboration announced recently between two other consumer/custom electronics buying groups HTSA and Nationwide Marketing Group. As part of that collaboration, the former Specialty Electronics Nationwide CI arm of Nationwide has changed its name to Home Technology Specialists Nationwide (HTSN).
