A relative newcomer to the high-performance consumer audio market, Spokane Valley, Wash.-based Aluminous Audio introduced itself to the audiophile crowd this past spring when it debuted its AL13.02 monitor and companion SU13.01 subwoofer.

The manufacturer hand builds its products, which utilize aircraft-grade aluminum, high-performance drivers and hand-assembled crossover networks. Designed with simplicity in mind, the AL13.02 and SU13.01 employ aluminum sealed enclosures that are engineered to minimize any sort of coloration and noise that’s often associated with other materials such as MDF. Aluminous Audio’s hand-built crossover features “double-decker” double-sided construction that is securely bolted to the interior of the speakers’ cabinets to ensure long-term reliability.

Aluminous says the 4-ohm AL13.02 monitor delivers a frequency response of 90Hz to 20kHz and a sensitivity rating of 87dB. The company also points out the speaker’s power handling capabilities range from 20 watts to 100 watts, and the 24-pound speaker ships with stands and floor spikes. In addition, Aluminous states the speaker’s physical dimensions at 21-inches x 6.5-inches x 3.75-inches, and it offers the speaker in a choice of silver or black to complement a variety of flat-panel televisions.

The companion SU13.01 incorporates a Class-D amplifier that’s rated to produce 175 watts and a 10-inch aluminum driver that together help the subwoofer deliver lows as deep as 20Hz. Additional features include volume, phase, equalization and crossover adjustments, LFE and speaker-level connection options, and a choice of either black or silver cabinets.
