Aeon Labs’ Z-Wave Smart Energy Power Strip Debuts at $100
Smart Strip from Aeotec by Aeon Labs monitors energy consumption, controls devices via Z-Wave wireless home automation technology.
One Smart Energy Power Strip from Aeon Labs Aeotec can monitor and control up to six plugged-in devices via the Z-Wave wireless home automation protocol.
The product just debuted for $100 at Amazon.com, Staples and other online retailers.
Aeotec/Aeon Labs makes all manner of relatively inexpensive Z-Wave devices (links below), including sensors, switches, USB stick and (soon, they say) LED smart bulbs and touch controllers.
The new strip has six power outlets, two of which are always on … unless the entire strip is powered down via Z-Wave commands. The other four outlets are individually controlled (on/off only) via any Z-Wave controller. (Note: The images suggest the four outlets are controlled in pairs, but Aeotec changed the configuration so now those outlets can be individually controlled.)
In addition, the plugged-in loads can be monitored for energy consumption. The device can report immediate wattage consumption or kWh energy usage over a period of time. Energy consumption would be displayed in the user interface of a third-party controller, if supported.
And, of course, the strip is a surge protector.
