3 Things Every Dealer Should See at CEDIA Expo 2014
The 2014 CEDIA Expo could be a turning point that helps to usher in a new wave of products and technologies to drive system sales in the immediate future. Here are a few things that dealers should check out during the show.
With roughly 500 exhibitors spread across multiple floors and a plethora of before- and after-hours events taking place throughout the course of the entire week, there is no way anyone other than members of the Justice League to cover the entire 2014 CEDIA Expo.
For those not named Flash or Superman, the best thing that can be done is to prioritize specific exhibitors and events during the 2014 trade show. For me, and this may sound surprising given the way the market currently looks, that other than networking, audio and video offers the most interesting possibilities that attendees should investigate.
Let me say that without question dealers need to look at the latest products from networking companies like Luxul (booth #676), Pakedge (booth #820), Access Networks (booth #550) and Wilson Electronics (booth #986) because today home networks and connectivity are more important than home theater, A/V, control and automation, security and everything else.
Beyond the necessity of providing robust and flexible home network solutions to support those A/V, control and security systems, dealers should check out the latest audio products because for the most part this product category remains one area in which dealers can add product and labor margins to their revenue streams, and video, which is making a comeback thanks to the public’s curiosity over technologies like 4K and streaming media.
To its credit, CEDIA is dedicating show space to system demos and A/V exhibitors showing their latest products and technologies in the categories of two-channel audio, multichannel surround sound, and HD video, with top brands such as:
- Paradigm (Sound Room 1)
- MartinLogan (Sound Room 2)
- GoldenEar (Sound Room 3)
- RBH Sound (Sound Room 4)
- Definitive Technology (Sound Rooms 5 and 6)
- Phase Tech (Sound Room 7)
- Induction Dynamics (Sound Room 8)
- Madison Fielding (Sound Room 9)
- TC Electronics Group (Tannoy) (Sound Room 10)
- Wolf Cinema (Sound Room 11)
- Prima Cinema (Sound Room 12)
- WiSA (Sound Room 13)
- BG Radia (Sound Room 14)
- SIM2 (Sound Room 15)
- D-Box (Sound Room 16)
- Dynaudio (Sound Room 17)
- Pro Audio Technology (Sound Room 18)
Focusing specifically on audio, CEDIA is also offering dealers a dedicated space to see high-performance audio. Featured in this area of the show floor are top companies McIntosh (booth numbers 701, 706 and 708), Steinway Lyngdorf (booth numbers 710 and 712) and Bose (room numbers 501 and 502).
Over in the video world, despite the push of 3D and now 4K, the video category has been grounded by a malaise that has for the most part inhibited sales growth. Perhaps things are about to change within the high-performance category with the entry of Barco (booth #700) and Christie Digital (booth #1078) into the residential market.
With these two companies and their long histories of producing quality products for the commercial market, traditional powerhouse custom brands such as Digital Projection (booth #650), SIM2, Runco (booth #146), JVC (booth #1146), and Epson (booth #240) will have new challengers to their respective product lines and popularity within the custom install industry.
