In an industry that seems to have a difficult time ever establishing standards, the HDBaseT Alliance is trying to tame the Wild West by moving to get its technology accepted as the de facto standard for HD digital signal connectivity.
The technology delivers uncompressed HD video, audio, power, Internet and various control signals through a single Cat 5e/6 cable. Because of the distance limitations of HDMI, HDBaseT is becoming widely used by integrators in multizone or single-zone long-distance cable runs. The Alliance now touts nearly 50 members, including founding members LG, Samsung, Sony, and Valens Semiconductor and high-profile members such as AMX, Crestron, Atlona, DPI, Kramer and more.
