Sonos has been teasing dealers under NDA about a new product to be introduced soon. And the Sonos forums are buzzing about the next big thing from the beloved provider of wireless audio. What can it be? Two years ago, we found a Sonos job posting for a senior product manager, home theater sound, and speculated the company would release a wireless surround sound system. The current job board doesn’t provide much of a clue, except for a posting for an engineering project manager, smart speaker products. This Engineering Project…

Robert Archer | 05/07 05:44 AM,
For years people have been able to download their favorite songs as ringtones, but unless a homeowner owned an exotic electronics system they were never able to treat their home's doorbell answering system with the same level of customization. The security manufacturer Swann is now providing homeowners with the ability to customize their doorbells with the same level of fun and uniqueness that phone owners enjoy with downloadable ringtones. Swann's new MP3 Doorbell is a wireless doorbell that plays music when a visitor presses a home's doorbell button. Swann says…

NuVo Technologies, one of the most popular brands in multiroom audio, is preparing a new wireless system that promises to be just as elegant as its professionally installed hardwired systems. The new system appeared for the first time at the CEDIA Expo last September, and then at the recent Integrated Systems Europe (ISE 2012) in Amsterdam. The system employs dual-band 802.11n wireless technology, but relies on its own network built on the system’s GW100 router. That device is “high-grade, high-fidelity hardware that recognizes any NuVo device on the network –…

NuForce Dia digital integrated amplifier
Robert Archer | 12/01 06:46 AM,
Back in the day there were two ways to listen to music: vinyl and the radio. Today however, vinyl and the radio are just two of the choices music fans have, and in fact many people start with a record or the radio and move on to a CD, DVD, Blu-ray, SACD, DVD-Audio, streaming Internet radio, a streaming service or their iTunes software before they are done with their music listening activities. NuForce's new Dia digital integrated amplifier is a compact all-in-one solution that supports a music enthusiast's ability to…

Robert Archer | 10/19 03:51 AM,
Since the downfall of the new construction market it has been clear that as a whole the custom electronics market put too much emphasis on new construction business. Naim's Uniti line of products provides custom installers with a choice of products that can be integrated into a new home or existing home environment to provide homeowners a state-of-the-art digital audio solution. The flagship product in the line is the SuperUniti and it is an…

Voco Could Give Sonos a Run with Voice-Enabled Audio System
Julie Jacobson | 09/26 09:09 AM,

If voice recognition ever had a use within the home, then music is it. And one of the most promising implementations comes from Navvo, whose Voco system is much more than a solid wireless audio system with voice-enabled search capabilities. Voco was one of our “Hidden Gems of CEDIA 2011,” and when we finally checked out the system at the Expo, we were not disappointed. With Voco, a user simply speaks the name of an artist, song, album or other piece of metadata into an Android-enabled device (iOS on the…
