At Integrated Systems Europe, Kaleidescapewas all prepared to address questions about the recent tentative ruling in its lawsuit with the DVD CCA – a decision against Kaleidescape that came down shortly before the show. “But it didn’t really come up,” says senior marketing director Tom Barnett during the show. Dealers and distributors interviewed by CE Pro during ISE either didn't know about the recent ruling or simply didn't care. At ISE 2012, the manufacturer of media servers showed a new Blu-ray disc carousel, the DV700 ($5,495), that does not include…

VidaBox LiivController with vAutomation 2.0
Robert Archer | 07/08 04:46 AM,
Anyone that doubts the impact that Apple has had on the custom electronics market is probably in denial about Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen's influence on rock-and-roll guitar playing. New York-based VidaBox is one company that has fully embraced Apple's iPad and iPhone and the company's new LiivController and vAutomation 2.0 take advantage of the powerful Apple products to provide VidaBox consumers with a choice of easy-to-use solutions that control their home electronics systems. The LiivController is a 4U-high unit that runs the company's vAutomation 2.0 software. The hardware…

VidaBox Combines Control, Multiroom Audio, Windows Media
Julie Jacobson | 12/13 08:17 AM,

The new LiivController from VidaBox is a home control hub with a multizone audio system built in. Or vice versa. Whatever you call it, just bring your own speakers and an amp for the audio, add an iPad for control, and you’re good to go. No third-party multiroom audio system or matrix switcher is required. VidaBox demonstrated an early version of the product during CEDIA Expo 2010, but the new LiivController and companion vAutomation software has been revamped since then, according to Vidabox president Steven Cheung. The flagship LiivController Multi-Zone…

New A/V Components Also Control Your Home
Julie Jacobson | 12/13 07:35 AM,

It used to be that home control systems came from home control companies. Nowadays, you can find home automation features built into security systems, thermostats, handheld remotes, power management devices and more. We've recently come across several audio/video components with home control inside. None of them offer anything close to the range of features provided by dedicated control systems, but for clients who want A/V first with a little automation thrown in, these solutions might just do the trick. Media Servers VidaBox, manufacturer of high-performance Media Center machines and software,…

Hands On: VidaBox TouchClient20 Media TV
Robert Archer | 11/11 11:12 AM,

VidaBox's TouchClient20 ($2,999) all-in-one Media Center touchpanel offers a lot for the price. Over the past couple of years, as many companies have separated themselves from Microsoft's Media Center, VidaBox has hung in there. The small, tech company has wrangled new and interesting products from the platform, including its innovative TouchClient20 all-in-one device. VidaBox's TouchClient20 ($2,999) combines the standard functions of a 20-inch HDTV with the functionality of Media Center and streaming media. Features It's easier to list what the TouchClient20 doesn't do than what it does. The full Media…

VidaBox RackServerV2
Robert Archer | 09/08 03:05 AM,
It's been said before and it remains true to this day: content is king. VidaBox's new 4U RackServerV2 is a dedicated media server that installers can set up to distribute Blu-ray, DVD, music, photos and video throughout a home to as many as 10 media extender devices. The N.Y.-based company offers the server with and without RAID protection, and it can be configured in a number of ways to provide as much as 32TB of storage with the use of one of the company's RackServerV2+Plus expansion units. VidaBox also equips…

VidaBox iPad App Controls Windows Media Center
Arlen Schweiger | 06/24 10:25 AM,

We love it when Microsoft and Apple play nice. Sometimes it takes some third-party intervention to bring the corporate giants together, so fans of one can still use the other’s products if need be. That’s what VidaBox has done with its media server controls. The manufacturer of Microsoft Windows Media Centers has jumped on the iPad bandwagon, debuting its iPad Media Center controls this week at the Asian Pacific CEDIA Expo; the company says it’s the first “to offer such a solution for Windows-based Media Centers.” “We’re all absolutely thrilled…

Sunfire: Another Media Server Bites the Dust
Julie Jacobson | 04/23 08:47 AM,
15 Comments
Sunfire is the latest manufacturer to drop its media server, following Escient, Axonix (morphed to something else) and much earlier Xperinet. The company is phasing out the Theater Grand Media Server (TGM-100) introduced last year at a retal price of about $6,000. Why bother with it, really, since sister company Elan will offer a media management solution with the forthcoming G control system. Besides, the media server was a strange fit for Sunfire, whose strength is in subwoofers, speakers and related electronics. “With the release of Elan’s new G system,…

Julie Jacobson | 04/08 11:11 AM,

VidaBox may be the first server manufacturer to take advantage of Escient’s demise, but others will surely follow. This just landed in my inbox: VidaBox Announces Discount & Trade-in Programs for Former Escient, Axonix, and Xperinet Dealers For dealers who want to trade in their existing equipment, VidaBox will be offering a $500 credit for any VS-100 or VS-200 system, or a $250 credit for any VC-1 system for up to 3 units. Alternatively, former authorized dealers of the three brands who need media servers for upcoming projects can receive…
