Samsung Galaxy Tab
CE Pro Editors | 01/28 12:16 PM, 0 Comments

A report from Displaybank predicts 10 million units will be sold in 2011, mostly overseas. The report also says 29.9 percent of the components that make up the unit are made in the U.S., while 56.8 percent of the components come from Korea, 4.2 percent from China and 1.1 percent from other regions. There were signs of optimism when CE Pro released its 2011 State of the Industry Report. Unlike the 2010 findings, this data showed the custom electronics bouncing back with an average 6.5 percent increase in revenues. Eighty-one percent of integrators capped off 2010 with higher revenues (or the same revenues) than 2009, and the anticipated number of installations for 2011 increased by 40 percent from 2010. Dealers predict an average installation price per job of $17,500 in 2011, up 16 percent from 2010. While there is still a ways to… View this story

Sharp Galapagos Tablet
Arlen Schweiger | 01/05 03:04 PM, 0 Comments
Sharp sure sees tablets as quite the evolutionary technology, as it announced during CES 2011. It may not have made our 10 Best (Worst) Tablet Names Ever list, but the company went with the Darwinian theme for its entry into the rapidly increasing world of tablets: Galapagos. Right now the "e-media tablet" device is available in Japan, and it features a spiffy 16:9 aspect ratio LCD touchscreen and proprietary technology called XMDF that automatically adjusts the layout of an e-book or other digital content for optimized viewing (plus Sharp's cloud-based… View this story

According to MarketWatch, this week after CES 2011 there will be "at least 100 tablets" on the market, all following the lead of Apple’s iPad. Remember when iPad debuted and everyone was laughing about the name and how it sounded like a tampon? Since then we have had many other funky names for touchscreens, starting with Google (Android) and Samsung (Galaxy). But now manufacturers are taking the names to the stratosphere. At CES, we are hearing tablets from Vizio (VIA), RIM (PlayBook), Dell (The Streak), Motorola (Xoom), AOC (Breeze), Malata… View this story
