Circuit City Stores Returning?

The days of calling Circuit City a defunct big-box "store" might be coming to an end. Systemax, which purchased the Circuit City brand in May 2009 and relaunched the company online, is "contemplating a brick-and-mortar rebirth," according to Dow Jones Newswires. Systemax bought and revived CompUSA, one of many failed electronics retailers, and now plans to open stores in Houston, Chicago and other major markets after successfully testing stores in Florida. Tweeter Brand Up for Sale

The Tweeter brand is up for grabs. The Canton, Mass.-based specialty electronics retailer that once had nearly 200 locations across the U.S. shut its doors in Dec. 2008. However, it's possible that its brand soon will be back from the dead. Atlanta-based liquidator Apto Solutions is accepting bids for Tweeter's intellectual property, including its name and URLs, according to Christopher Re, VP of business development for Apto. Consumers Not Quitting on Circuit City

Don't underestimate the value of being bookmarked. Consumers are still shopping at CircuitCity.com, despite the long-time retailer having liquidated its remaining 567 stores in early 2009. Systemax scooped up Circuit City’s brand and URL in May 2009 for $14 million.
