Manufacturers were hoping 3D would be a buzzword for potential TV buyers. Instead, another TV feature took over. Viewers are way more interested in web connectivity, says a new study. Leichtman Research Group (LRG) says 38 percent of all U.S. households have at least one TV connected to the web. Those numbers are up 8 percent from 2011, and 14 percent from 2010. But viewers aren’t necessarily upgrading to a web-enabled HDTV. Only about 4 percent rely on the actual TV to get online, with video game systems taking the… View this story

Panasonic E50 Series LED TVs
Grant Clauser | 01/12 02:49 PM, 0 Comments
While known primarily for its plasma TVs among video enthusiasts, Panasonic launched a line of 3D LED LCD TVs with passive 3D technology at CES 2012. A Panasonic rep said the company wants to give consumers a wider choice of options. Panasonic wants customers to know that the best picture quality will come from the active-shutter glasses plasma TVs, but if the convenience of cheap polarized glasses appeals to people, Panasonic will give them that on the ET5 series LED TVs. Panasonic also introduced a 55-inch LED, beating out its… View this story

Cutting the Cable Cord
Rachel Cericola | 10/11 07:19 AM, 4 Comments
A new report by MagnaGlobal says almost 9 million homes will drop traditional pay TV services by 2016. But that doesn’t mean those homes will go without or even go the OTA (over the air) route. About 4 million of those homes will turn to the web for their entertainment needs. This is quite the increase, considering the magic number for 2011 was about 455,000 households. It helps that consumers no longer have to huddle around a computer. In July 2011, DisplaySearch said more than 25 percent of the TVs… View this story
