Hands On: Elite Screens’ Kestrel Tension Motorized Screen
Arlen Schweiger | 02/24 08:36 AM,

Homeowners may not be investing in dedicated home theaters like they used to, but that hasn’t stopped the projection category from being fruitful … and perhaps it’s allowed installers to get more creative with their video sales. For multipurpose media rooms, for example, clients might request both a fixed television display and a larger motorized projection screen that can disappear when not in use. For multiple aspect ratio viewing, there’s still plenty of reason to pitch customers on 2.35:1 setups that allow projectors to fill the screen without the unused…

How SnapAV Keeps Prices So Low
Jason Knott | 06/13 11:27 AM,
40 Comments
“How do they do it? How is one manufacturer able to keep its prices so low and its dealer margins high?” Those are the big questions many in the industry ask when they look at SnapAV, a manufacturer/distributor that was borne from an integration company. In just five years, the Charlotte-based company is on track to record $50 million in revenues with just 64 employees by providing integrators with an alternative to brand name products in several “low tech” areas including screens (Dragonfly), mounts (Strong), racks (Strong), cable (Binary) and…

Draper debuted several products at InfoComm 2010. One of them, an addition to its Scissor Lift line, debuted in dramatic fashion, being slowly lowered from the rafters 32 feet above Draper’s booth. Slightly less dramatic was Draper’s presentation of its Paragon/Series V Tab-Tensioned Screen, StageScreen and Cineflex and Uniflex viewing surfaces. Paragon/Series V Designed for large venues, Draper’s Paragon projection screen has been updated with tab-tensioning. It can go as wide as 24 feet, says Jim Hoodlebrink, rental/IDS product manager. TapouT Theater is a Mixed Martial Arts Knockout
Tom LeBlanc | 03/12 07:42 AM,
36 Comments
Punkass is how Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fans know him. He’s also known as Dan Caldwell, co-founder and CEO of TapouT, a company embedded in the MMA industry. The fighter/executive set out to have an elaborate theater built at TapouT’s Grand Terrace, Calif., headquarters and enlisted San Bernardino, Calif.-based Audio Video Evolution (AVE) to install the electronics. Why does a corporation need an elaborate theater? Well, TapouT — which says it manufactures a “countercultural” clothing line and produces a “raucous” reality show — isn’t a typical corporation. A Little Background…

How to Retrofit Theaters for CinemaScope
Robert Archer | 02/01 08:15 AM,
1 Comment
The CinemaScope widescreen viewing experience provides dealers with a new way to tap into their existing client bases, thanks to lens systems that provide opportunities for installers to retrofit existing 16:9 projection systems for 2.35:1. Leading the way in the 2.35 movement have been companies like Runco and Stewart Filmscreen, who have been advocating the benefits of high-definition video systems capable of displaying CinemaScope content. Panamorph, which manufactures conversion lenses for home theater projectors, offers the UH480 lens and the IR-controlled ATH1 transport to turn a standard 16:9 projector into…

Screen Excellence Enlightor 1 Projection Screen
CE Pro Editors | 01/07 12:13 AM,
According to Screen Excellence, its unity gain Enlightor 1 has the lowest insertion loss of any acoustically transparent screen on the market. The screen can be ordered in fixed frame and motorized versions, as well as a choice of aspect ratios.
Enlightor 1 uses a proprietary woven structure made up of a compound PVC thread. Its design eliminates any moiré effect that is often produced by fixed pixel projectors when shown on conventional perforated or micro-perforated screens.

14-Foot Screen Stars at Patriots Tailgate Party
Tom LeBlanc | 11/25 10:44 AM,
3 Comments
The colder it gets in Foxboro, Mass., the more New England Patriots fans appreciate Audio Video Intelligence’s (AVI) work. AVI installed the video — including a 14-foot diagonal Vutec projection screen — for a Patriots pre-game indoor venue, All Pro Celebrity Tailgate Party, hosted by charitable organization Rodman Ride for Kids. The “indoor” part alone makes it worth the average $250 donation paid by the 500 or so attendees at each home game, jokes Fred Smerlas, former All-Pro nose guard for the Buffalo Bills who finished his career with the…
