Runco has established its top level, 73d projector as arguably one best performing 3D projectors in the entire residential market. The company's latest projector, the newly announced LS-12d maintains many of the 73d's performance characteristics, but at price levels that are considerably lower than its flagship product. The LS-12d is an active-shutter, three-chip DLP projector that Runco says can be used situations in which homeowners want a high-performance projector that aesthetically doesn't detract from their home's interior design. To ensure the projector's visual compatibility with today's modern home designs, Runco… View this story

Bob Hana, one of the most visible execs in the custom electronics business, is the new face and managing director of the Home Technology Specialists of America, a buying group comprised of 60 of the most elite integrators and 42 leading vendors. Hana replaces HTSA's long-time executive director Richard Glikes, who resigned abruptly in August 2011 after 15 years at the helm. Glikes subsequently formed his own buying group, Azione Unlimited. Runco bragging rights are about to become more affordable. Runco announced the LS-1, an addition to its LightStyle Series, as well as one of the most affordable DLP projectors Runco has ever produced. At $3,995 (MSRP), the LS-1 is a single-chip 1080p DLP projector designed to deliver movies, TV, gaming, and much more. Because it uses Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology, Runco says the LS-1 offers exceptional color and detail. It also has Runco’s SuperOnyx with ConstantContrast, ViVix proprietary digital video processing, and the ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) calibration suite… View this story

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced its 2011 class of inductees into the Consumer Electronics (CE) Hall of Fame, and custom electronics is well represented. Among the 11 inductees are two prominent pioneers in the custom market: Sam Runco and Sandy Bloomberg. Runco is founder of Runco International, the first company to introduce a line doubler with a multi-frequency projector in 1990 as well as the first multiple-aspect-ratio controller, the ARC-IV, to the high-end home theater market. 3D is one of the most controversial, exciting technologies to hit the market since HDTV debuted in the late 1990s. With the technology rapidly maturing and content options growing by the minute, installers are at a crossroad of whether to offer this developing - but popular - technology. Unlike HDTV, which offered consumers an instant upgrade over analog video, 3D comes in different flavors, requiring some TLC before client presentations. Installers who are interested in showing 3D solutions to clients should first consider these key points. 3D Images are Less… View this story

Once a 3D system is setup and ready to demo, installers have one more variable to deal with: choosing the right content. To help dealers wade through the mediocrity of 3D content, Runco has developed a content list for installers to use. “We love the 3D content that’s come on to the market during the last few years," says Jennifer Davis, VP of marketing for Runco. "Runco provides a demo guide to our authorized dealers with specific recommendations that includes starting and stopping points for each clip and what to… View this story

If anyone had any doubts of how the A/V market has shifted just one look at Runco's latest projection product should remove all doubts. Following the annual CES show, which took place in early January in Las Vegas, the Beaverton, Ore.-based specialty video manufacturer introduced its latest LightStyle Series projector: the LightStyle LS-HB. Runco says the release of this product provides its dealers with a high-brightness product that can be placed in a non-dedicated theater environment without sacrificing picture quality. One of the big bugaboos that people often criticize about the 3D video format is the bulk, awkwardness and overall unattractiveness of the 3D glasses that are necessary to view 3D content. GUNNAR Optiks is a manufacturer of performance eyewear for computer gaming and outdoor applications, and the company's line of 3D products addresses the passive 3D market where high-performance consumer video manufacturers such as Runco, SIM2 and Wolf Cinema operate. The Carlsbad, Calif.-based optical company offers a line of stylish and comfortable to wear 3D glasses that employ circular… View this story

Your assignment is to design and install a new home entertainment system in this family room, incorporating a contemporary look with clean, sharp lines. No cables will show, and no bulky equipment will be exposed. There will be no clutter on the wall or ventilation issues. You will also use the best audio/video equipment available. Boca Theater & Automation (BTA) of Boca Raton, Fla., which took on this challenge, might have self-destruct at the end of this message.
