Mitsubishi Electric was the last hold-out in the rear projection TV (RPTV) business, and now the company is dropping the line, CE Pro has learned. Mitsubishi Electrical Visual Solutions America, Inc. (MEVSA), the group in charge of the RPTV and other video product lines for both residential and commercial markets, has sent a letter to authorized service centers (reprinted below) indicating they are “discontinuing the manufacture of 73”, 82” and 92” DLP projection televisions.” The memo, issued by MEVSA president and CEO Junichi Nose, indicates that the move is part… View this story

1080p LCDs outsold 1080p plasmas in the 50-inch to 54-inch market by nearly three to one in October, according to new research from Pacific Media Associates. The "October Consumer 2007 Flat Panel Display Tracking Service" also found that LCDs made up 80 percent of flat panels sold (26 inches and above), with 30-inch to 34-inch flat panels becoming more popular than 40-inch to 44-inch units. Of all the specs and figures flying around at Mitsubishi's 2007 "Get the Big Picture" line show in New York Monday, one designation stands out: 1080p. Every TV announced by Mitsubishi is 1080p, including eight LCD flat panels and nine DLP microdisplay rear-projection TVs (RPTVs). Among the features Mitsubishi touted was "thin frame." The idea is that the picture will extend closer to the edges of the TV than on previous models.
