HTSA Forges Ahead Without Glikes; Biz Up for Audio, Control, Networking

The abrupt departure of HTSA’s long-time executive director Richard Glikes did not dampen the mood at the organization’s 15th annual fall meeting in Denver this week. Dealers and vendors alike seem upbeat about the future of the Home Technology Specialists Alliance under new leadership. Glikes resigned last month after 15 years at the helm; his successor -- a “managing director,” not an “executive director” -- will be named later this year. Meanwhile, HTSA board members Brian Hudkins of Gramophone (Timonium, Md.) and Jon Robbins of HiFi House (Broomall, Pa.) stepped…

Richard Glikes, a 35-year industry veteran and former executive director of the Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA) who departed abruptly in late August 2011, announced the formation of a new buying group, Azione Unlimited (AU), that targets mid-size custom retailers and integrators. Headquartered in West Chester, Pa., AU will be fully operational by the beginning of 2012. The plan calls for a maximum of 250 non-competing dealer members nationwide and 32 vendor members. Glikes tells CE Pro the target companies will have approximately $1.5 million in annual revenues, meaning…

HTSA Exec Director Richard Glikes Leaves CE Buying Group After 15 Years

Richard Glikes is leaving HTSA (Home Technology Specialists of America) after 15 years as the executive director of the group, which serves more than 60 elite home systems integration firms. The HTSA board of directors says in a statement that Glikes and HTSA “have been unable to mutually agree to new contract terms.” Glikes’ exit follows the recent departure of Dave Berman, director of training and public relations since 2006. Berman left the group earlier in 2011 to join the Frisco, Texas, A/V shop (and HTSA member) Stereo East. HTSA…

Only 58 integration companies comprise the trade group Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA). Even so, the group provides a decent barometer of business conditions for CE pros. During the recent HTSA fall conference in St. Louis, executive director Richard Glikes told CE Pro, “I think people are feeling better” about the integration business, after a couple of sad years. HTSA supports about 42 vendors associated with home audio, video and control, and the organization tracks the purchase of these brands by all of its member dealers. According to Glikes,…

3D is going to drive business to specialty A/V retailers and custom integrators this year. That’s according to Richard Glikes, executive director of Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA), which is holding its annual spring meeting this week in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. It’s not necessarily that 3D is going to generate a ton of new business, but “it raises a lot of questions,” Glikes says. “And when it raises questions, where do you go?” The answer, hopefully for the 60 dealers in the HTSA group, is the specialty retailer. Starting…
