The U.S. home theater front projector market made a strong comeback in 2010. New data from Quixel Research shows a 31 percent increase in shipments from 2009. According to Quixel's "Q4 Home Theater Market Review Report," 150,215 front projector units shipped in 2010, with Q4 seeing over 48,000 units. Only 114,335 front projectors were sold in 2009. The 2010 data indicates the market is one of the few that rebounded close to 2007 levels. The home theater front projector market in Q1 2010 grew sharply in both volume and value year-to-year (Y/Y), according to Quixel Research. The category increased 51 percent Y/Y in unit sales and 17 percent Y/Y in revenue, according to Quixel's "USA Home Theater and Entertainment Front Projector Market Review." Meanwhile, unit sales and volume dropped 21 percent and 25 percent, respectively, quarter-to-quarter (Q/Q). While dismissed by many as a technology on its last legs, plasma television 2010 first quarter (Q1) sales results once again proved the skeptics wrong, according to Quixel Research. It could be that the bigger is better philosophy is driving consumer interest in the front projection category. Unit sales in the United States grew 66 percent from Q3 2009 to Q4 2009 and 15 percent from Q4 2008 to Q4 2009, according to Quixel Research.
