Extron Electronics says it has purchased the Products Engineering and Development Division of Electrosonic Group, a worldwide A/V systems integration and service provider. The Electrosonic Group systems integration and service business is not part of the acquisition and will continue forward as a wholly independent organization. Electrosonic's Products Division is an innovator in video and graphics over IP encoders and decoders, HD video players, and multi-image display processors. It has been operating as a stand-alone division from the systems integration and service business since February 2009. The acquisition includes all…

5 Pre/Pros to Bolster Home Theater Performance
Robert Archer | 07/16 06:10 AM,
17 Comments
Preamplifers/processors (pre/pros) are a popular system upgrade for many installers, including a majority of the CE Pro 100. But pre/pros are less mainstream than A/V receivers because of their cost and the added labor they require to install. When compared to the workman-like features of an A/V receiver, however, pre/pros offer several step-up qualities. For example, many high-performance manufacturers offer modular designs that allow for upgrades, as well as software-based firmware and flash memory upgrades. According to the CE Pro 100 Brand Analysis, the top 5 pre/pro manufacturers are: IntegraLexiconRotelMcIntoshDenonClick…

Key Digital’s KD-VPHD3 Processor/Switcher Offers Reliability
Robert Archer | 05/29 05:05 AM,

For most installers, the three tenets of a good product are consistency, differentiated performance and flexibility. Key Digital's KD-VPHD3 A/V processor and switcher offers these traits at a price point that can be incorporated into a client's bid without blowing up the budget. The slim unit fits easily into an equipment rack, and its back panel has enough connections to handle everything from console gaming systems and computers to traditional DVD/Blu-ray players and VCRs. In my system, I connected my Blu-ray, HD-DVD and DVD players, a Wii system and HD/DVR…

Anthem Ships High-Power Statement D2v Preamp/Processor
Arlen Schweiger | 03/06 06:48 AM,
0 Comments
Anthem is now shipping its Statement D2v, version two, preamplifier/processor. For our friends from north of the border, let’s just say this generation Statement compared to the original packs a punch like Canadian beer compared to American. The Statement D2v has your client more than well covered on the HDMI side, as the rear panel has barely any surface room not covered by an input or output, starting with four more HDMI 1.3c inputs and one more HDMI 1.3c output—that brings those totals on D2v to eight inputs and two…

Steve Crowe | 01/19 09:21 AM,
0 Comments
Meridian, which recently acquired Sooloos, has unveiled its HD621 HDMI Audio Processor that provides 6:1 video switching for HDMI components via a single cable. The HD621 separates audio from the data stream at the HDMI source and outputs the audio via audio-only connections compatible with Meridian surround controllers. It can output the audio on Meridian's Mulitchannel High Resolution (MMHR) interface on 8 channels at a 96 kHz sample rate. The HD621 also has SmartLink output where four RCA jacks each carry two channels of audio (96 kHz sample rate) encrypted…

Anthem, developer of high-performance A/V processors, is teaming up with JVC and SI Screens to deliver complete home theater packages. "Our intention is to bundle projectors, processors and screens," says Jack Shafton, director of sales and marketing for Anthem's sister company Paradigm. The JVC product will be branded Anthem, but the screens will keep their SI names, Shafton says. The bundles should be available by the end of Q1. What they won't include are Paradigm speakers, says Shafton, but Paradigm is doing some pinch-hitting of its own. The manufacturer of…
